At the age of five, Virginia won a prize for her writing. She remembers the primary school teacher announcing that a new award was to be given to a pupil who had shown a remarkable talent for writing stories. A pupil whom all the staff felt should be encouraged to continue with her writing. Virginia says she can clearly remember the feeling of surprise and excitement when she heard her name called out.

Although her writing went on hold after she left primary school, where other pursuits, such as ballet, acting, marriage, and having children, took precedence, she did begin to write again while her children were growing up. Her first novel was a children's story, but she soon progressed to adult novels.

Virginia's historical novels bring her immense pleasure, as her research into the era in which her books are set reveals not only extremely interesting but at times quite shocking aspects. Many of these historical facts she includes in her stories.

Read her books to discover how people lived and behaved in bygone times, and how attitudes have changed.
